Becky Lyne Places Third At NCAA Meet

Junior Becky Lyne ran the fastest race of her Butler career and wound up placing third in the finals of the 800 meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at California State University at Sacramento on Saturday, June 14. Lyne, who had the fastest time in the 800 prelims and the 800 semifinals, missed capturing the national title by just 0.60 seconds!

Alice Schmidt of North Carolina, who was second in the semifinals, captured the national crown by finishing the 800 meter run in 2:01.16. Neisha Bernard-Thomas of LSU finished second in 2:01.75, while Lyne was just 0.01 seconds behind in third place with a school-record 2:01.76 finish.

The race capped an amazing initial Butler season for Lyne, who hails from Sheffield, England. She broke Butler's 800 meter record twice during the regular season and then set another school mark at the Mideast Regional with a time of 2:02.66 in the prelims. She owned the fastest 800 meter time in the nation during the regular season and also posted the best time in the country at the NCAA Regionals.
