Butler Opens Indoor Track Season At Notre Dame Blue-Gold Invitational

Sophomore Jenni Pereira won the women's 3,000 meter run and freshman Tyler Kos captured the triple jump at the season-opening Blue-Gold Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame on Friday, Dec. 2. The indoor track and field meet was a non-scoring competition.

Pereira out-distanced the 3,000 meter field with a winning time of 9:56.44, 11 seconds ahead of runner-up Amy Kohlmeier of Notre Dame. Butler senior Monica Behney placed fourth in the event in 10:32.60.

Butler's Kristi Hertzler placed fourth in both the 60 meter hurdles (9.44) and the 400 meter dash (1:03.73). Freshman Kathryn Lucas finished fourth in the pole vault (8-6.5), while the Bulldogs claimed third and fourth place in the long jump. Sophomore Allison Hohn finished third with a jump of 14-10.25, while freshman Sam Ford was fourth with a leap of 11-03.75.

In the men's competition, Kos won the triple jump with a leap of 37-11.50. Sophomore Andrew Medford finished second in the shot put with a toss of 36-06.50. Butler also picked up fourth place finishes from Matt Kral in the pole vault (12-09.50), Chad Ware in the 5,000 meter run (15:52.26) and Nate Schaefer in the 60 meter hurdles (9.27). Kos placed fifth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.72.
