Butler swept both the men's and women's 3,000 meter races and picked up a third win in the men's 1,000 at the EIU Early Bird indoor track meet hosted by Eastern Illinois on Friday, Dec. 12. The meet was the first indoor track competition for the Bulldogs.
Junior Marbeth Shiell led a strong showing by Butler's women in the 3,000 with a first place finish in 10:22.05. The Bulldogs posted four of the top six finishes in the race with junior Sara Bird (10:53.16) cross the finish line in third place, freshman Bonnie Kaminsky (10:57.55) placing fourth and freshman Lauren Haberkorn (11:06.68) finishing sixth.
Butler also picked up a third place finish from junior Whitney Turner in the women's mile run (5:22.69), while sophomore Mary Andorfer came in sixth (5:31.51) in the smae race. Senior Amanda Zolman placed third in the women's high jump (4-11), while junior Jessica Langsdon was fifth in the women's 400 (1:03.16). Freshman Kelsey Druckman came in seventh in the 400 (1:03.62).
The Bulldogs picked up a pair of first place finishes in the men's competition. Junior Kris Gauson won the men's 1,000 in 2:28.58, while junior Stephen Lisgo led a strong Butler performance in the men's 3,000 with a first place finish in 8:29.27. Senior Andy Baker finished second in the 3,000 in 8:39.15, while junior Tom Boardman was fifth (8:54.13).
Junior Andy Barbeau posted a fourth place finish in the men's 800 in 2:00.00, while senior Kent Wories was fifth in the mile run in 4:25.57.
