Butler Track Coach Joe Franklin To Take Leave Of Absence

Jan. 20, 2003

Butler track and cross country coach Joe Franklin will take a medical leave of absence, beginning on Monday, Jan. 20. During Franklin's absence, Butler assistant coach Sylvia Kamp will serve as interim head coach for the Bulldogs.

Franklin, a ten-time Horizon League "Coach of the Year" in track and cross country, will likely miss the rest of Butler's indoor season. The Bullodgs began their indoor campaign on Jan. 11 at Ball State and have six indoor meets remaining.

"We expect Joe to return in April," said Butler Director of Athletics John Parry. "He'll coach our teams during the outdoor season."

Kamp has served as Franklin's top assistant since August of 2001. She was an assistant track and cross country coach at Xavier University for two years before joining the Bulldogs.
