Butler's Scott Overall To Run In Nationally-Televised Race
Feb. 6, 2007
Butler senior Scott Overall will face some of the stiffest competition in the nation in front of a national television audience when he competes in the Mile Invitational run at the Tyson Invitational indoor track and field meet, hosted by the University of Arkansas on Friday, Feb. 9. The nationally-prominent meet will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 1-3 p.m.
Overall has already topped the NCAA Provisional Qualifying time with a 4:01.72 performance in the mile at the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana University. He needs to record a time of 3:59.00 or better for automatic qualification. He already owns Butler's school-record of 4:00.53 in the mile run.
The Mile Invitational field at the Tyson Invitational features several World Class runners, including Nick Symmonds of Oregon, Mark Fountain of Australia and Gareth Turnbull of Ireland. Symmonds is currently ranked fifth in the world in the mile, Fountain is sixth and Turnbull is ninth. Overall, who is ranked 11th in the NCAA Division I in the mile this season, is one of just three collegians in the race.
Overall was named Horizon League Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year in 2005-06. He posted a 12th place finish in the 3,000 meter run at last year's NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championship, and he finished 11th in the 5,000 meter run at the national Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
