Becky Lyne Named Horizon League Athlete of the Week
Feb. 12, 2003
Junior Becky Lyne turned in one of the top Butler performances of the young indoor season, and her effort at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame earned her recognition as the Horizon League Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 9. She's the first Butler track athlete to be honored by the league this season.
Lyne, who hails from Sheffield, England, captured first place in the 1000 meter run at the Meyo Invitational in a Butler record time of 2:48.84. Her time shattered the previous Butler indoor record of 2:57.60, set by Shelley Lorek in 1997.
Lyne was running the 1000 meter race for the first time this season.
Butler also picked up a record-setting performance from sophomore pole vaulter Jill Snyder, who cleared the bar at 11-07.75 in her specialty. Snyder broke her own school record of 11-0.
