THIS WEEK: Butler faces its biggest challenge of the indoor season when it plays host to the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday and
Sunday, Feb. 23-24. The league championship meet will be held at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. Competition on Saturday will begin at 7:30 p.m., while
Sunday's action will start at 12 noon. Butler finished third in the men's competition and fourth in the women's league meet a year ago.
HONORED BULLDOG: Senior Justin Young (Peoria, Ill.) was named Horizon League "Men's Track Athlete of the Week" for his performance at the Cannon IV
Classic. Young earned provisional qualification for the NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship by placing third in the 5,000 meter run in
14:04.94 at the Cannon IV Classic. It was a lifetime best time for the Butler All-American, and his effort places him among the top 15 best 5,000 meter performances
in the NCAA Division I this spring.
Hoosier Hills Meet Highlights:
- Junior Mark Tucker (Geelong, Australia) won the mile run at the Hoosier Hills Meet in Bloomington with a season-best time of 4:06.33. He finished five seconds
ahead of runner-up Joel Cotton of Indiana. Earlier this season, Tucker had been clocked at 4:07.58 in the mile while setting a meet record at the Stan Lyons
Invitational. Junior Lennon Wicks (New South Wales, Australia) placed 10th in the mile in 4:24.75 at the Hoosier Hills Meet.
- Freshman Jill Snyder (Temperance, Mich.) recorded a personal best of 11-02.25 in the pole vault to place 11th at the Hoosier Hills Meet. Snyder is the first female
pole vaulter at Butler.
- Freshman Brandon Waggonner (Brownsburg) ran a personal-best 23.45 to place 15th in the 200 meter dash at the Hoosier Hills Meet. He was closely followed by
teammates Kofi Anokwa (Indianapolis), who placed 16th in 23.70, and Alex Hall (Ft. Wayne), who came in 17th in 23.71.
EIU Friday Night Special Highlights:
- Freshman Tommy Mathews (Cincinnati, Ohio), competing in his second meet for the Bulldogs, cleared 6-2 in the high jump to place third in the 10-athlete field at the
Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special. It was the top mark in the high jump by a Butler athlete this season.
