Mark Tucker Named Horizon League Track Athlete of the Week

April 3, 2002

Mark Tucker, who turned in a pair of impressive performances at the Stanford Invitational, has been named Horizon League Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. He's the first member of Butler's track squad to earn the league honor this season.

Tucker competed in both the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meter run at the prestigious Stanford Invitational, and he earned provisional qualifier status for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in both events. The Butler junior posted a time of 13:58.03 in the 5,000 and then placed runner-up in the "B" Section of the steeplechase with a time of 8:50.70. His steeplechase performance broke the 26-year-old Butler record of 8:52.9, set by John Kessler in 1976.
