Junior Andy Baker and senior Genni Gardner turned in strong individual performances at the Oregon Relays, and the two have been honored as the Horizon League Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Baker earns the league honor for the first time this season, while Gardner picks up her second league certificate.
Baker was the top collegiate finisher in the Bill McChesney Jr. Memorial 5,000 meter race at the Oregon Relays. He placed third overall with a time of 13.49.87, the best time recorded in the Horizon League this season and the 11th-best in the NCAA Division I. Baker used an all-out sprint in the final 200 meters of the race to overtake and pass Oregon All-American A. J. Acosta for third place.
Gardner placed sixth in the women's 5,000 meter race at the nationally-prominent Oregon meet. She was the third collegiate finisher in the race with a time of 16:37.93.
Both Butler runners topped the NCAA Regional Qualifying Standard for the 5,000 meter event.
