Genni Gardner Named League Athlete of the Week
May 2, 2007
Butler's Genni Gardner has been named Horizon League Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week for her stellar performance at the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 26. The junior distance standout ran the second-fastest 5,000 meter race in Butler women's track and field history at the nationally-prominent meet.
Gardner placed fifth in the women's 5,000 meter run at the Penn Relays, crossing the finish line in 16:26.82. Her time was the fastest women's 5,000 meter clocking in the Horizon League this spring. It also moved her into second place on Butler's all-time 5,000 meter list, trailing only Victoria Mitchell's 16:06 performance in 2005!
Gardner's effort at the Penn Relays topped the NCAA Division I qualifying mark in the 5,000 meter run and boosted her to a No. 23 ranking in the nation.
