Thomas Frazer Qualifies For NCAA National Meet

Butler's Thomas Frazer earned a berth in the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship with a strong performance at the Mideast Outdoor Track and Field Regional hosted by LSU at Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday (May 28). The junior from Belfast, Ireland, secured a bid by placing runner-up in the 5,000 meter run on the opening night of competition at the regionals.
Frazer was one of three Butler runners entered in the 5,000 meter finals. He completed the race in 14:17.37, finishing four seconds behind individual champ Simon Bairu of Wisconsin. The top five finishers in the race all advance to the NCAA national meet.
Junior Nick Goodliffe placed ninth in the 5,000 in 14:34.26, while senior Brad Bennett came in 16th in 15:04.17.
Two Butler runners competed in the 1,500 meter preliminaries. Junior John Frazer came in ninth in his heat and 16th overall in 3:52.49, while junior Andrew Sherman finished ninth in his heat and 20th overall in 3:54.29.
Butler sophomore Brandon Cook placed sixth in his heat of the 200 meter dash in 22.36. He finished 20th overall.
The regional meet will wrap up on Saturday, May 29.
