Scott Overall Named 2006 Horizon League Outdoor Track Athlete Of The Year

June 20, 2006

Butler's Scott Overall capped off a stellar outdoor season by being named the 2006 Horizon League Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year. It marked the second consecutive year that the Butler distance ace received the Horizon League's top outdoor track honor.

Overall etched his name in the Butler track record book this spring with a school-record time of 13:38.19 in the 5,000 meter run at the Stanford Cardinal Invite. He also captured the 5,000 meter run at the Horizon League Championship, posting a league-record time of 14:30.57. He was the league's lone competitor at the 2006 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship, where he finished 11th in the 5,000 meter run.

Earlier this spring, Overall was named 2006 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year. He set a league record while winning the 1,000 meter run at the Horizon League Indoor Championship, and he placed 12th in the 3,000 meter run at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championship!

With the selection of Overall as Outdoor Athlete of the Year, Butler has now claimed the last six league Men's Athlete of the Year awards in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. Andy Rayner (2005) and Olly Laws (2004) each earned the award in cross country, while Andrew Sherman captured the 2005 indoor track honor. Overall has the last three indoor/outdoor awards.

Tenia Fisher of UW-Milwaukee, who set meet records in both the 400 and 800 meter runs at the 2006 Horizon League Championship, was named 2006 Horizon League Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
