Butler distance runner Kent Wories has been named to the 2007-08 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America, selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). The senior scholar-athlete earned third team recognition on the University Division Men's Track and Field/Cross Country honor squad.
Wories, a finance major with a 3.96 grade point average, earned All-Horizon League recognition in cross country last fall. He placed fifth at the 2007 Horizon League Cross Country Championship, won by Butler, and then finished third in the 5,000 meter run and fourth in the 3,000 meter run at the 2008 Horizon League Indoor Track Championship. He was named to the 2007 Horizon League Fall All-Academic Team, and he was chosen Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week four times.
Wories is just the second track and cross country athlete from Butler to be named to the Men's Academic All-America Team. Former distance ace Andrew Sherman was named first team Academic All-America in 2005. Butler has had 29 student-athletes earn Academic All-America recognition since 1981. Wories is the third Butler athlete to earn the national honor this year, joining men's basketball players A. J. Graves and Drew Streicher.
