Victoria Mitchell Named Horizon League Track Athlete Of The Year

Butler junior Victoria Mitchell added to an already long list of honors by being named the Horizon League Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Field events standout Nick Davis of UW-Milwaukee was tabbed as the league Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the year.
Mitchell closed out her initial season at Butler with an All-American performance at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. She placed eighth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:18.34 to earn All-America recognition. She was the lone Horizon League athlete to be named All-America at the national championship.
The talented runner from Australia was the dominant athlete at the 2004 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championship in May. She won the 800 meter run, 1,500 meter run, 5,000 meter run and 3,000 meter run and became the first female in Horizon League history to win four events at the league meet! After the competition, she was named the Outstanding Performer for Running Events.
During the 2004 season, Mitchell set Butler records in the 1,500 meter run, the 5,000 meter run and the 3,000 meter steeplechase. She also broke the Horizon League records in the 5,000 meter run and the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Davis won league championships in the javelin and the high jump. He also placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump at the league meet.
