Butler Sweeps Top Spots At Purdue Meet

Senior Andy Baker won the men’s
competition and newcomer Katie Clark captured the
women’s crown at the season-opening Great American Legends
cross country meet hosted by Purdue University on Friday (Sept.
4). The meet was a non-scoring competition.
Baker paced the field in the men’s 8K race, finishing first
in a time of 25:16.50. He crossed the finish line more than
12 seconds ahead of runner-up Caden Shields (25:28.60) of Purdue
and more than 40 seconds ahead of teammate Kris
Gauson (25:57.66) in third place.
Senior Tom Boardman came in third for the
Bulldogs and fifth overall in 26:19.23, while freshman
Kevin Oblinger finished eighth in 26:44.80.
Butler’s other finishers were senior Taylor
Eaton (16th, 27:40.22), sophomore Orion
Wenrich (21st, 29:37.36), freshman Craig
Jordan (22nd, 29:48.48) and freshman Derek
Groves (27th, 31:32.73).
Clark, a freshman from Hull, U.K., cruised to the top spot in the
women’s race in 18:03.27. She finished more than 30
seconds ahead of runner-up Kristin Phillips (18:35.08) of
Purdue. Butler freshman Kirsti Legg came in
fourth in 18:56.43.
A third Butler newcomer, freshman Shelbi Burnett,
came in 10th in 19:48.16, while sophomore Lauren
Haberkorn finished 11th in 19:51.74. Also competing
for the Bulldogs were freshman Karleen Ritchie
(13th, 20:13.42), freshman Kaitlyn Love (14th,
20:16.52), freshman Callie Klatt (15th, 20:39.50),
sophomore Bonnie Kaminsky (16th, 20:55.12), senior
Whitney Turner (17th, 21:22.12), junior
Mary Andorfer (18th, 21:42.86), senior
Ashley Dick (19th, 22:05.92), junior Erica
Hunt (20th, 22:52.72) and freshman Kelsey
Neal (21st, 24:05.66).
