Senior Rob Mullett captured an individual title
and freshman Katie Clark raced to a fifth place
finish to lead Butler’s cross country squad to a pair of
“Top 5” team finishes at the Indiana Intercollegiate
Meet, hosted by Indiana State University on Friday (Sept.
18). Butler placed third in the women’s race and fourth
in the men’s competition in the state meet.
Mullett, running on the course that will host the NCAA Division I
Championship in November, out-raced the field to place first in
24:45. He nipped Andrew Poore of Indiana by a second in the
men’s 8K race.
Butler also picked up a “Top 10” individual finish from
junior Madison Roeder, who came in seventh in
25:06. Junior Matt Lawder was the third
Butler runner across the finish line, coming in 20th overall in
26:01. Senior Steve Lisgo placed 45th in
27:06, senior Taylor Eaton was 46th in 27:07 and
freshman Kevin Oblinger was 47th in 27:12.
Indiana won the men’s team title with 20 points, while
Indiana State was second with 55. Purdue scored 100 points
and Butler finished with 119. The Bulldogs were competing
without several of their top runners, including two-time
All-American Andy Baker.
Clark ran with the front pack and finished the women’s 5K
race in 17:45, 17 seconds behind individual champ Alison Bishel of
Ball State. Freshman Kirsti Legg finished
12th in the race in 18:41, followed by junior Rosie
Edwards in 23rd place in 19:06. Freshman
Shelbi Burnette was the fourth Butler runner
across the finish line, placing 30th in 19:17, while senior
Whitney Turner came in 32nd in 19:19.
Rounding out Butler’s “Top 7” in the competition
were senior Sara Bird, who placed 35th in 19:25,
and freshman Kaitlyn Love, who came in 36th in
19:29.
Indiana also captured the women’s title with 47 points, five
ahead of runner-up Purdue. The Bulldogs finished with 102
points.
Butler also had several competitors in the men’s and
women’s open races. Sophomore Lauren
Haberkorn came in sixth in the women’s open race in
19:25, while sophomore Bonnie Kaminsky finished
11th in 20:11. Junior Mary Andorfer placed
17th in 21:02, senior Eric Hunt was 31st in 22:03,
senior Ashley Dick finished 35th in 22:19 and
freshman Kelsey Neal wound up 48th in 23:01.
In the men’s open race, sophomore Orion
Wenrich finished 23rd in 28:36, freshman Craig
Jordan placed 32nd in 29:10 and freshman Derek
Groves came in 78th in 32:24.
