Baker, Clark Earn Horizon League Cross Country Honors
Butlers duo of All-American Andy Baker and
freshman Katie Clark have been named Horizon
League Cross Country Athletes of the Week for the period September
28-October 4. Each turned in a top performance at the recent
Notre Dame Invitational.
Baker, who earned the league’s weekly honor for the second
time this season, placed third out of 179 runners in the
men’s Blue Division Race at Notre Dame. He covered the
8K course on the Notre Dame Golf Course in 23:45, finishing one
second behind individual champ Jacob Kirwa of New Mexico.
Clark, running in just her third meet at Butler, finished 27th in a
field of 178 runners in the women’s Blue Division Race.
She posted a time of 17:19 in the 5K race.
Butler’s men placed fifth in a strong 23-team field, while
Butler’s women came in 13th of 22 teams.
Butler Climbs In National Cross Country Poll
With the strong showing at the Notre Dame Invitational, the Butler
men’s cross country squad has climbed to No. 19 in the U. S.
Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national
poll. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 20 in the first poll
released a week ago.
Stanford has moved into the top spot in the coaches’ poll,
while Northern Arizona has taken over the No. 2 spot.
Wisconsin, the top team in the Great Lakes Region, is ranked No. 13
overall.
Butler remains the second-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region.
