Madison Roeder, Andy Baker Earn NCAA Bids
Butler’s duo of Madison Roeder and Andy Baker, who posted
“Top 10” individual finishes at the Great Lakes
Regional Meet, have been selected to participate in the 2009 NCAA
Men’s Cross Country Championship on Nov. 23. The two
were among 38 individuals chosen through an automatic qualifier and
at-large selection process.
Roeder, a junior from Fishers (Hamilton Southeastern High School),
will be competing in the NCAA Championship for the second straight
year. He placed 190th at last year’s national meet,
while competing as one of seven Butler team runners. The
third-year runner paced the Bulldogs at this year’s Great
Lakes Regional Meet with a seventh place finish in 31:13.92.
He missed a “Top Five” individual finish by less than a
second.
Baker, a senior from Minehead, United Kingdom, will be bidding for
a third consecutive All-America certificate. He placed 28th
at the national meet in 2007 and then finished 40th overall (33rd
team place) at last year’s meet. Baker, who placed
eighth at the Great Lakes Regional Meet in 31:19.52, has won three
consecutive Horizon League individual
championships.
The 2009 NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championship will be
hosted by Indiana State University at the LaVern Gibson
Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports
Center in Terre Haute. The men’s race will begin at
12:08 p.m (ET).
