Butler Women Second, Men Fourth At Indiana Intercollegiates
WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. -- Senior Marbeth Shiell and junior Craig
Gundersen each captured fourth place individually and the two led
Butler to a pair of “Top 5” team finishes at the 71st
Annual Indiana Intercollegiate Meet on Friday (Sept. 17). The
Butler women placed second, while Butler’s men finished
fourth in the team standings.
Shiell completed the women’s 5K race on the Purdue Varsity
Cross Country Course in 17:45.70. She was eight seconds
behind individual champ Chelsea Blanchard of Indiana and three
seconds behind third place finisher Alison Bishel of Ball
State.
The Bulldogs had three other runners finish among the top 12
individuals. Junior Becky Howarth came in seventh in
17:54.50, junior Lauren Haberkorn was 10th in 18:01.40 and
sophomore Katie Clark finished 12th in 18:08.10. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Love was Butler’s fifth runner, finishing 22nd in
18:40.50.
Other Butler runners were sophomore Nicole Humphrey (47th in
19:15.70), senior Rosie Edwards (48th in 19:19.50) and sophomore
Karleen Ritchie (73rd in 20:05.50).
Gundersen paced Butler’s men with a time of 24:52.40 for the
8K layout. He was just five seconds behind third place
finisher Charles White of Purdue. Ben Hubers of Indiana won
the men’s race in 24:33.70.
Kris Gauson, in his final Butler season, and junior Matt Proctor
crossed the finish line nearly in tandem, taking 16th and 17th
places respectively. Gauson posted a time of 25:32.10, while
Proctor finished in 25:33.30.
Sophomore Kevin Oblinger came in 24th in 26:02.40, while senior
Matt Lawder finished 35th in 26:28.20. Rounding out
Butler’s lineup were senior Taylor Eaton (38th in 26:33.60),
freshman Jackson Carnes (51st in 26:52.60) and freshman Billy
Klimczak (104th in 28:14.60).
Indiana won both the men’s and women’s team
championships. Purdue was second and Indiana State third in
the men’s race.
