Butler Men 12th, Women 17th At Notre Dame
NOTRE DAME, IND. -- Senior Madison Roeder paced Butler’s
men to a 12th place finish, while sophomore Katie Clark led
Butler’s women to a 17th place finish at the 55th running of
the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Oct. 1.
Madison Roeder covered the five-mile men’s course in 24:32
and placed 31st in the individual competition. He was just
three seconds behind a “Top 25” individual finish in
the 160-runner field.
Freshman Ross Clarke came in second for the Bulldogs and 39th
overall with a time of 24:41. Senior Tom Boardman was 62nd in
25:02, senior Justin Roeder was 72nd in 25:13 and freshman Callum
Hawkins was 91st in 25:28. Rounding out Butler’s top
seven runners were junior Matt Proctor (129th, 26:13) and senior
Kris Gauson (160th, 29:34).
The 21-team men’s Blue Race was won by No. 3 Oregon, while
No. 16 New Mexico finished runner-up. The Bulldog edged No.
14 Villanova in the final team standings.
Clark placed 46th in the women’s 5K race with a time of
17:29. Sophomore Kirsty Legg crossed the finish line in 53rd
place with a time of 17:33, while junior Rebecca Howarth came in
73rd in 17:45. Senior Marbeth Shiell wound up 93rd in 18:02,
and junior Lauren Haberkorn finished 132nd in 18:27.
Sophomores Lauren McKillop (145th, 18:38) and Kaitlyn Love (155th,
18:44) rounded out Butler’s top seven, while junior Rosie
Edwards (170th, 19:04) was Butler’s final finisher. A
total of 194 runners competed in the race.
Top-ranked Villanova won the 24-team women’s Blue Race,
while No. 5 Oregon finished second. Butler placed just ahead
of host Notre Dame and No. 19 UTEP.
