TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Kris Gauson topped Butler’s men and
Katie Clark led the Butler women at the NCAA Pre-Nationals Meet,
hosted by Indiana State on Saturday, Oct. 16. The Butler men
placed 20th of 36 teams in the Men’s White Race, while
Butler’s women came in 21st of 40 teams in the Women’s
Gauson placed 33rd in a field of 240 runners with a time of 24:21.1 over the 8K layout. Senior Madison Roeder crossed the finish line in 85th place with a time of 24:53.2, while freshman Callum Hawkins came in 100th in 25:01.8. Senior Tom Boardman was 117th (25:13.7) and senior Justin Roeder placed 146th (25:34.0). Senior Matt Lawder, Butler’s sixth runner, finished 184th (25:57.2).
Samuel Chelanga of Liberty claimed the individual title with a winning time of 23:19.9, while Oklahoma took the team title.
Clark, just a sophomore, covered the women’s 6K course in 21:08.7 and finished 40th in a field of 274 runners. Sophomore Kirsty Legg finished 53 in 21:25.2, while senior Marbeth Shiell came in 120th in 22:00.4. Junior Rebecca Howarth was Butler’s fourth finisher, placing 150th overall (22:16.8), and sophomore Lauren McKillop was the fifth Butler runner to cross the finish line, placing 191st (22:36.8).
Junior Lauren Haberkorn came in 201st (22:43.6) and sophomore Kaitlyn Love finished 221st (23:01.9).
Lucy Van Dalen of Stony Brook won the women’s individual title with a time of 20:08.1, while Georgetown captured the team crown.
In the Open Race competition, Butler's Matt Proctor placed 14th in 25:24.4. Kevin Oblinger came in 54th in 26:21.1, Taylor Eaton was 68th in 26:38.2 and Jackson Carnes finished 95th in 27:09.6. Rosie Edwards, running in the women's Open Race, placed 40th in 22:52.2.
Butler will take a week off, before returning to action at the Horizon League Cross Country Championship. The Bulldogs will defend titles in both the men’s and women’s races.
