Callum Hawkins Named League Runner of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler sophomore Callum Hawkins, who paced
the Bulldogs at the competitive Roy Griak Invitational, has been
named Horizon League Male Runner of the Week, for the week
beginning September 19.
Hawkins ran with the front pack at the meet, which featured three
“Top 25” ranked teams. He wound up placing
seventh overall in the 220-runner field with a time of 24:08 on the
8K Les Bolstad Golf Course layout. It was the fastest time
ever recorded by a Butler runner in the event!
“That was a huge run for Callum,” said Butler head
coach Matt Roe. “Five of the runners in front of him
were NCAA All-Americans and the sixth, Kelly Wiebe of Regina
University, is one of Canada’s top runners.”
Hawkins finished ten seconds behind NCAA Cross Country All-American
and USA Junior National Champion Trevor Dunbar of Portland.
The Butler sophomore also finished ahead of several All-American
runners.
Butler’s cross country teams will return to action on Friday
Sept. 30 at the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind.
