Butler Runners Sweep League Honors
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler sophomores Ross Clarke and Shelbi
Burnett turned in strong individual performances at the Bradley
Cross Country Classic, and both have been recognized by the Horizon
League. Clarke was named league Male Runner of the Week and
Burnett was tabbed the conference’s Female Runner of the
Week, for the period October 10-16.
Clarke won the men’s individual title at Bradley, pacing a
field of 188 runners. He covered the 8K layout at Newman Golf
Course in 24:20.9 and out-raced Brogan Austin of Drake (24:21.7)
for the top spot. Clarke’s time was the seventh-fastest
in the eight-year history of the meet. Butler’s men
placed ninth overall in the 19-team competition.
Burnett topped Butler’s women for the second consecutive
meet and placed seventh overall at Bradley. She ran a
personal best time of 21:23.31 on the 6K course, while helping lead
the Bulldogs to a fourth-place team finish. The 21-team
women’s field featured 230 runners.
Butler’s cross country teams will have a week off to prepare
for the Horizon League Cross Country Championship in Cleveland,
Ohio, on Oct. 29. Both Butler teams are reigning league
champions.
