Butler Women Place Second, Men Eighth At State Meet

BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- Junior Lauren McKillop placed fourth in the individual standings and helped lead Butler to a runner-up team finish at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet, hosted by Indiana on Friday (Sept. 16).  The Butler men's team placed eighth at the state competition.

McKillop covered the women's 5K course in 17:59 and finished behind three runners from team champ Indiana.  Chelsea Blanchard of Indiana won the race with a time of 17:35, and she was followed across the finish line by teammates Samantha Ginther (17:41) and Caitlin Engel (17:51).

Junior Becky Howarth, Butler's second runner, finished 10th overall with a time of 18:11.  Freshman Mara Olson came in 14th in 18;27, just one second ahead of teammate Shelbi Burnett in 15th place.  Butler's fifth runner was senior Lauren Haberkorn, who came in 22nd in 18:47.

Junior Kaitlyn Love, who placed 23rd in 18:52, and junior Alyson Fosnot, who finished 27th in 18:58, rounded out Butler's top seven.

Freshman Tom Curr led Butler in the 8K men race with a 16th place individual finish in 25:34.  Junior Kevin Oblinger came in 36th in 26:05, while freshman David Ford placed 45th in 26:15.  Freshman Kodi Mullins covered the distance in 26:55 and finished 71st, and senior Orion Wenrich came in 108th in 27:49.

Purdue won the men's race, while Indiana finished runner-up.
