Hawkins Leads Butler At Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. -- Sophomore Callum Hawkins posted a "Top 10" individual finish and helped lead Butler to an 11th place team finish at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday (Sept. 24).   North Carolina State won the 24-team meet.

Hawkins placed seventh overall in the 220-runner field.  He covered the 8K layout at Les Bolstad Golf Course in 24:07.3.  Lawi Lalang of Arizona captured the individual title in a meet record 23:15.5, 29 seconds ahead of runner-up Ryan Hill of North Carolina State.

Freshman Tom Curr came in second for the Bulldogs and 29th overall in 24:46.6, while sophomore Ross Clarke finished 61st in 25:11.  Freshman Harry Ellis placed 72nd in 25:21.9, and freshman James Martin came in 114th in 25:52.

Junior Kevin Oblinger (118, 25:55) and sophomore Craig Jordan (159, 27:33) rounded out Butler's seven-runner team.

Butler compiled 283 points in the meet and finished 17 points behind Duke in tenth place.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Notre Dame Invitational.
