Butler Women 11th, Men 15th At Pre-Nationals
LOUISVILLE, KY. -- Junior Katie Clark narrowly missed a "Top 10" individual finish and helped lead Butler to an 11th place team finish in the women's red seeded race at the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday (Oct. 13). The Bulldogs placed 15th in the men's red seeded race.
Clark covered the women's 6K course in 20:14.4 and finished 11th in the race, less than one second behind Jilian Smith of Michigan in tenth place. Aliphine Taliamuk-Bolton of Wichita State won the women's competition in 19:43.9.
Sophomore Mara Olson finished second for the Bulldogs and 62nd overall in 21:10.1, while junior Kirsty Legg came in 70th in 21:16.6. Freshman Olivia Pratt, who came in 87th in the 265-runner field in 21:28.4, and senior Lauren McKillop, who finished 95th in 21:32.5, rounded out Butler's top five runners.
Senior Kaitlyn Love finished in 22:12.0 and finished 175th, while senior Alyson Fosnot came in 223rd in 23:06.8.
Top-ranked Florida State finished first in the 38-team women's field, while Oregon came in second.
Sophomore Harry Ellis topped Butler's men with a 45th place finish. He covered the 8K men's course in 24:00.1. Junior Tom Anderson was the second Butler runner to cross the finish line, placing 93rd in 24:25.4.
Freshman Erik Peterson, who came in 101st in 24:29.6, junior Ross Clarke, who finished 103rd in 24:30.7, and senior Kevin Oblinger, who wound up 123rd in 24:38.0, completed Butler's scoring five. Sophomore Kodi Mullin finished 204th in 25:18.3 and sophomore Billy Klimczak came in 214th in 25:27.1. A total of 272 runners competed in the men's red seeded race.
Colorado, ranked seventh in the latest national cross country poll, won the men's team title, while No. 3 BYU finished runner-up. A total of 40 teams competed in the men's red seeded race.
