Bulldogs Compete At Non-Scoring Indiana Open

Junior Kent Wories captured a "Top Ten" finish in the men's competition and junior Caitlyn Helgesen led Butler's runners in the women's race at the Indiana Open cross country meet held in Bloomington on Saturday, Sept. 8. The open meet was a non-scoring event.
Wories placed seventh in the men's 8K race with a time of 26:22. He came in 21 seconds after individual champ Justin Roeder, who was running unattached. The other five runners who finished ahead of Wories were all from Big Ten schools.
Sophomore Phil Schwein finished second for the Bulldogs and 20th overall in 27:30, while senior Matt Dunham came in 21st in 27:39. Senior Chad Ware placed 28th in 28:10, junior Phil Hawley was 37th in 30:30, freshman Taylor Eaton came in 41st in 32:35 and junior Dan Bardua finished 44th in 35:45.
Helgesen paced the Bulldogs in the women's 5K race with a 31st place finish in 20:09. Senior Maggie Mathieson came in 35th in 20:22, sophomore Ashley Salt placed 46th in 21:18, and junior Aubrey Smith finished 49th in 21:25.
Also competing for the Bulldogs in Bloomington were sophomore Rachel Hojnacki (53rd, 22:11), freshman Ashley Dick (54th, 22:17), junior Jenny Homan (56th, 22:23) and freshman Erica Buster (60th, 24:12).
The Bulldogs will compete with a full squad for the first time this season at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet in Terre Haute on Friday, Sept. 15.
