Sophomore Adam Hill paced Butler's men, while freshman Genni Gardner led the Butler women at the Indiana State Invitational held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute on Saturday, Sept. 11. Butler, competing with just partial men's and women's squads, finished sixth in the eight-team men's competition, and eighth in the nine-team women's race.
Hill came in 37th overall, finishing the 8K course in 27:23.14. He was followed by teammates Matt Dunham in 40th place (27:30.90) and Chad Ware in 41st place (27:33.37). Rounding out Butler's top five men were sophomore Chris Smith in 45th place (27:45.78) and junior Rick Mick in 47th place (27:53.13).
Gardner crossed the finish line in 29th place with a 5K time of 18:57.99. She was the lone Butler runner to finish in the "Top 30." Freshman Sarah Kemple finished 42nd in 19:26.84, followed by freshmen Jenny Holman in 53rd place (20:00.40), Aubrey Smith in 62nd place (20:48.99), Anna Kline in 63rd place (20:56.33) and Kari Splitt in 65th place (20:57.06).
Eastern Michigan claimed the men's title, while Michigan captured the women's crown.
