Sophomore Marbeth Shiell placed ninth in the women's competition and freshman Madison Roeder came in 14th in the men's race to pace Butler's cross country team at the 2007 Indiana Intercollegiate Meet held at Purdue University on Friday, Sept. 14. The Butler women placed seventh at the meet, while Butler's men came in fifth.
Shiell, running for the first time this fall, covered the women's 5,000 meter course in 18:23.90. Roder completed the men's 8,000 meter race in 25:35.03. He missed a "Top 10" finish by just 11 seconds.
The Butler women also picked up a "Top 25" individual finish from senior Isabelle Stoate, who posted a time of 18:54.61 in her first 2007 race. Senior Aubrey Smith came in 52nd in 19:29.48 and senior Kari Splitt finished 71st in 19:54.32.
In the men's competition, freshman Matt Lawder finished in 15th place, right behind Roeder. Lawder posted a time of 25:36.46. Senior Chris Smith came in 19th in 25:52.80 and freshman Nathan Tavenor came in 46th in 26:30.48.
First-year head coach Matt Roe held most of his top runners out of the competition.
Purdue won the women's title, out-pacing runner-up Ball State. Indiana State won the men's race, finishing ahead of Indiana.
