Bulldogs Turn In Solid Performance At Indiana Intercollegiates

Redshirt sophomore Justin Roeder posted a "Top 10" individual finish to pace Butler's men and junior Marbeth Shiell led Butler's women with an 11th place finish at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet, host by Indiana University on Friday (Sept. 19). Butler's men placed fifth in the team competition, while the Butler women came in seventh.

Roeder, returning after missing all of last season with injuries, finished eighth in the men's 8K race. He covered the distance in 25:37, missing a "Top Five" finish by just eight seconds. He was just two seconds shy of a tie for sixth place.

Madison Roeder, Justin's younger brother, was the second Butler runner to cross the finish line, placing 16th in 26:03, while junior Tom Boardman, running his first race for the Bulldogs, came in 19th in 26:11. Sophomore Matt Lawder came in 27th in 26:30 and senior Kent Wories rounded out Butler's scoring team in 65th place in 27:28.

Also finishing for the Bulldogs were junior Stephen Lisgo, who placed 77th (27:45) in his first Butler race, freshman Graham Fishell, who finished 80th (27:53), and freshman Orion Wenrich, who came in 106th (28:28).

Shiell paced the Bulldogs in the women's 5K race, finishing in 18:47. She was three seconds away from a "Top 10" finish and 23 seconds away from the "Top Five." Freshman Bonnie Kaminsky came in 42nd (19:57), freshman Lauren Haberkorn was 48th (20:10) and junior Sara Bird was 49th (20:11). Junior Whitney Turner closed out Butler's scoring quintet in 60th place (20:40).

Sophomore Mary Andorfer was Butler's sixth runner, coming in 103rd in 22:15.

Host Indiana won the 21-team men's team competition with 33 points, followed by Indiana State (50), Indiana Tech (108), South Indiana (129) and the Bulldogs (135). Purdue finished first among 21 women's teams with 45 points, followed by Indiana (57), Ball State (106), Indiana State (109), Southern Indiana (129), DePauw (201) and Butler (210).
