Butler Women Place Sixth, Men Seventh At Oregon Invitational

Senior Scott Overall placed fifth in the men's competition and junior Claire Holme finished 18th in the women's race to pace Butler at the Bill Dellinger Invitational cross country meet hosted by Oregon on Friday, Sept. 29. The Bulldogs finished sixth of 11 teams in the women's race and seventh of 13 teams in the men's event.

Overall crossed the finish line in the men's 8K race in 23:31.41, trailing Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott of Oregon in fourth place by just three seconds. Josh Rohatinsky of Brigham Young won the men's race in 22:58, while Galen Rupp of Oregon was second in 23:09.03. John Moore of Portland finished third in 23:19.09.

Senior Alex Hains was Butler's second runner, finishing 24th in 23:58.42. Freshman Justin Roeder came in 47th in 24:23.77, followed by junior Darren Gauson, who was 55th in 24:28.96. Senior Vinny Ambrico placed 59th in 24:30.03 to complete Butler's scoring quintet. Junior Richard Kay finished 86th in 25:02.49 and junior Kent Wories came in 105th in 25:42.46. A total of 117 runners were entered in the race.

Oregon won the men's competition, while Portland finished runner-up.

Holme finished the women's 6K race in 21:05.91. She missed a "Top 10" finish by just 10 seconds. Holme was 0.5 seconds behind Caitlin Chrisman of Wake Forest in 17th place.

Senior Jenni Perira came in 21st in 21:17.05, junior Genni Gardner placed 34th in 21:41.14, senior Ava Hutchinson finished 44th in 21:55.96 and freshman Marbeth Shiell wound up 49th in 22:11.99 to complete Butler's scoring squad. Senior Kara Henry finished 65th in 22:35.23 and junior Sarah Kemple placed 83rd in 23:16. There were 95 runners entered in the women's race.

Arkansas claimed the women's team title, finishing 20 points ahead of runner-up Brigham Young. Senior Kassi Andersen of Brigham Young finished first in the individual competition in 19:54.09.
