Bulldogs Complete Two-Meet Weekend Stretch

Senior Genni Gardner placed 36th in the individual competition and helped the Butler women's cross country team to a 26th place team finish at the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute on Saturday (Oct. 13). One day earlier, senior Kent Wories led the Butler men's team to a 13th place finish at the Bradley Classic.

Gardner posted a time of 21:04 on the 6,000-meter layout at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course, which will be the site of the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championship. She was the lone Butler runner to place in the "Top 100" in the 38-team Blue Race, which featured 12 nationally-ranked teams. A total of 259 runners competed in the race.

Freshman Rachel Gibbs was the second Butler runner across the finish line, coming in 117th in 21:57. Senior Claire Holme placed 124th in 22:00, while sophomore Marbeth Shiell came in 149th in 22:16. Senior Aubrey Smith finished in 24:32 (247th) and senior Isabelle Stoate came across in 26:45 (258th).

Top-ranked Stanford won the women's Blue Race, while Florida State finished runner-up.

On Friday (Oct. 12), the Butler men's team competed in the Bradley Classic at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. Wories paced the Bulldogs with a time of 25:47 and a 34th place finish in the 8,000-meter race. Freshman Nathan Tavenor came in 44th in 25:57, while junior Tommy Davies was 51st in 26:02.

Junior Steven Smith posted a 27:55 (122nd) and freshman Stephen Bain finished in 28:10 (128th).

Missouri, with five runners among the "Top 10" finishers, won the 15-team event.
