Butler grabbed a top 10 finish in the men's race and a top 15 place in the women's competition at the Pre-National Cross Country Meet hosted by Indiana State at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute on Saturday, Oct. 16. Both races featured 37 teams and more than 250 runners.
Senior Nick Goodliffe helped pace the Butler men to a seventh place finish. He came in 17th in the individual competition, covering the 8K course in 24:29.4. Goodliffe was followed by senior Thomas Frazer, who came in 36th in 24:40.8, and junior Scott Overall, who was 52nd in 24:48.3.
Rounding out the top five runners for the Bulldogs were senior Andrew Sherman, who placed 64th in 24:53.9, and senior Brian Dunn, who was 88th in 25:10.6. Butler's other two runners were senior John Frazer, who finished in 165th place in 25:52.6, and junior Bill Peterman, who was 174th in 25:56.5.
Matt Gonzalez of New Mexico won the men's race in 23:47.2, while Colorado claimed the men's team title.
Butler's women came in 12th. Senior Victoria Mitchell led the way by finishing 21st in 21:13.3. Junior Monica Behney was the second Butler runner to cross the finish line, placing 54th in 21:43.5, while junior Ava Hutchinson covered the 6K course in 22:09.3 and finished 94th. Senior Monika Schneider placed 105th in 22:14.1, and freshman Genni Gardner came in 108th in 22:15.1.
Alicia Craig of Stanford claimed the women's individual title in 20:20.4, and she helped lead her teammates to the team crown.
The Bulldogs will be idle until Saturday, Oct. 30, when both Butler teams will attempt to repeat as team champs at the Horizon League Cross Country Meet in Kenosha, Wis.
