Junior Olly Laws posted a "Top 40" individual finish and helped the Butler men's cross country team to a 14th place team finish in the 32-team "Gold" race at the NCAA Pre-National Meet, hosted by Northern Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Butler women's cross country team came in 25th in the 32-team women's "Purple" race.
Laws covered the 8,000 meter course in 24:18 and grabbed the No. 36 position in the final individual standings. There were well over 200 runners competing in the men's "Gold" race.
Butler also picked up a 55th place finish from junior Tom Frazer, who posted a time of 24:36. Rounding out Butler's five scoring runners were junior Nick Goodliffe (77th, 24:53), junior John Frazer (96th, 25:02) and senior Bart Phariss (159th, 25:35). Junior Andrew Sherman came in 177th in 25:53.
Colorado won the men's gold race, while Northern Arizona was second. The Bulldogs finished just ahead of Florida and Washington State.
In the women's 6K competition, Butler was led by senior Becky Lyne, who came in 74th in 21:50. Other Butler runners were senior Mary Reeves (112th, 22:14), sophomore Monika Schneider (116th, 22:17), sophomore Katie Stuckey (176th, 23:17) and sophomore Monica Behney (181st, 23:22).
Brigham Young won the women's purple race, while North Carolina finished second.
