April 17, 2003

Senior distance runner Amber Gascoigne has earned 2002-03 Academic All-America honors for women's cross country. The senior education major was one of just three Academic All-Americans to post a perfect grade point average.

To qualify for Academic All-America recognition, athletes must have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 (on a 4.00 scale); be a sophomore, junior or senior; and placed in the Top 15 (or top 10%) of their NCAA regional meet or be an NCAA All-American if not in the top 15 or 10% of the regional meet. Gascoigne, who placed runner-up at the Horizon League Championship, finished 12th at the Great Lakes Region Meet.

The women's cross country team at Butler also was recognized as a 2002-03 All-Academic Team, With Distinction. To qualify as an "All-Academic Cross Country Team," squads had to have a cumulative team GPA of 3.00. All teams that earned a 3.25 and above GPA are accorded "All-Academic Cross Country Team, With Distinction" honors.

Butler's women's cross country squad, coached by Joe Franklin, compiled a 3.52 team GPA.
