Bulldogs To Compete At The Indiana Intercollegiate Meet

Sept. 18, 2008

Butler cross country coach Matt Roe will enter both his men's and women's teams in the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet at Indiana University on Friday, Sept. 19. The Butler women will compete in both the open race at 3 p.m. (ET) and the varsity race at 4:30 p.m., while Butler's men will run in the varsity race at 5:15 p.m.

Roe will have eight of his runners in the men's 8,000 meter race. Two of Butler's runners, juniors Steve Lisgo and Tom Boardman, will be making their debut for the Bulldogs, while a third, red-shirt sophomore Justin Roeder, will be making his return after missing all of last season with injuries.

"Steve and Tom are a bit light on their training due to a summer of racing, but they have trained well this past month and are looking forward to putting on our uniform for the first time," said Roe, who will hold out five of his top six runners at the Indiana Intercollegiates.

"Justin has been snake-bitten with injuries for much of his running career. He has done an excellent job this past year taking care of his body and getting fit. This is just the first step for him, as he will be an important piece of the puzzle for us this fall."

Lisgo, Boardman and Roeder will be joined at the Indiana-hosted meet by senior Kent Wories, sophomores Matt Lawder and Madison Roeder and freshmen Graham Fishell and Orion Wenrich.

"What I like about our men's team right now is our depth and unity," continued Roe. "We are developing a deep group of guys who are working well together. I am excited to see them compete as a team."

Roe will enter nine runners in the two women's races. Competing in the open race will be seniors Ashley Salt and Amanda Zolman, junior Ashley Dick and freshman Laura Weatherford. Running in the varsity race will be juniors Marbeth Shiell, Sara Bird and Whitney Turner and freshmen Lauren Haberkorn and Bonnie Kaminsky.

"Our women are getting better every week, and I expect we'll be a step ahead of where we were at Purdue two weeks ago," noted Roe.

The Indiana Intercollegiate Meet will be just the second competition of the season for the Bulldogs.
