Oct. 4, 2006

For the third straight week, Butler has cracked the national cross country polls for both men and women. Butler's women have climbed to 28th place, while Butler's men stand 29th in the most recent national poll released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Butler women climbed two spots from last week's poll. The surge followed a strong showing by the Bulldogs at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, hosted by the University of Oregon on Sept. 29. Butler's women placed sixth in the meet, which included #4 Arkansas, #6 Brigham Young, #14 Wake Forest, #15 Washington and #20 Duke.

Butler's men, who slipped four positions in the national poll, finished seventh at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, which was won by #6 Oregon. The Bulldogs did finish ahead of #23 Texas at the Oregon meet.

Cross Country Sweep: Butler's duo of senior Scott Overall and junior Claire Holme swept Horizon League Cross Country Athlete of the Week recognition for the second consecutive week. Overall was named Male Athlete of the Week, while Holme captured Female Athlete of the Week honors.

Overall placed fifth among 117 runners at the Bill Dellinger Invitaitonal, hosted by Oregon. He finished the 8K race in 23:31, missing fourth place by just three seconds.

Holme, running in just her second career race for the Bulldogs, finished 18th out of 95 runners at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. She covered the 6K women's race in 21:05. The Butler junior missed a "Top 10" finish by just 10 seconds.
