Steve Kaffel
Coach Farley on Kaffel: "Steve missed the first half of fall
ball, rehabbing from off-season knee and shoulder surgery. He has
an excellent swing, and we think he could be an exciting power
hitter from the left side of the plate. Steve will be in the hunt
this spring for at bats from the DH spot and will compete at first
base in the future." High School: Four-year letterwinner as a
catcher and first baseman at Carl Sandburg High School...earned
all-conference honors in 2007 and 2008, as well as all-area
honorable mention...team captain...batted .367 with seven home runs
and 68 RBI as a junior...led team to a 30-8 record in 2007...head
coaches: Doug Sutor and Greg Billo...also helped his summer league
team to a 30-1 record and the state championship in 2007...hit .607
with four home runs...led the team in slugging percentage, on base
percentage and walks...lettered three seasons as a forward on the
basketball team...team captain...also a member of the chess
team...National Honor Society member...Personal: Born Sept. 20,
1989...son of Larry and Francine Kaffel...education major.
