Coach Farley on Sokolowski: "Matt had a very good fall on the
mound, and he is a pitcher our team has confidence in. His outing
last spring against eventual league champion UIC was an outstanding
pitching performance. He gained valuable experience last summer
pitching in the Valley league in Virginia. We think he can have a
big year in 2009." 2008: Tied for third on the team with eight
starts during the year...his 48.0 innings of work were the
fourth-most...stuck-out 16 while allowing just six walks...worked
4.1 innings of relief at Southern Illinois, allowing no earned runs
while striking out four...allowed just three earned runs each in
back-to-back seven-inning starts at Tennessee Tech (March 14) and
against Youngstown State (March 21), finishing with seven
strikeouts against TTU...in his best start of the year, surrendered
just two runs - none earned - on four hits in 8.0 innings of work
at UIC (April 4)...2007: Came out of the bullpen in all but one of
his 15 appearances...earned his first collegiate win at Xavier
(5/16), yielding an unearned run on four hits while striking out
two in 7.0 innings...allowed just one hit in 2.0 innings of relief
against Indiana State (4/5)...struck out two and gave up an
unearned run in 2.2 innings at Youngstown State (4/28)...2006:
Started in seven of 17 games as a freshman...fourth on the team
with 59.0 innings pitched...yielded two earned runs on six hits in
six innings at Vanderbilt (3/15)...allowed one earned run in five
innings against Wright State in the Horizon League Championship
(5/27)...High School: Honorable mention all-state performer as a
senior at Bishop Dwenger High School...two-time all-conference
player...selected to play in the 2005 North/South All-Star
Game...posted a 15-7 career record with a 1.65 earned run average
and 212 strikeouts...earned three varsity baseball letters...high
