Butler kicks off the 2009 Horizon League Baseball Championship as the No. 7 seed when it takes on No. 6 seed Youngstown State on Tuesday (May 19) beginning at 3:00 p.m. at The Pipe Yard in Lorain, Ohio. The Bulldogs will need a win against the Penguins to stay alive and advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament on Wednesday (May 20), where they would face No. 3 seed Wright State beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Butler battled back from early deficits in a pair of games in Milwaukee - taking a late lead in the opener and rallying for four in the ninth to draw even in the nightcap - but the host Panthers had the final say in each contest, picking up a 6-5 decision in the first game and a 7-6 win in the second on Thursday (May 14) evening at Miller Park.

Senior Tyler Tepe pitched four strong innings in his first collegiate start and senior Jason Jamerson provided an offensive spark with his bat to help lead Butler to a 7-5 victory over Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Illinois in a non-league game at Bulldog Park on Tuesday, May 12. The regular season comes to a close this week when the Bulldogs play four games in a four-day span. Butler wraps up the home schedule on Tuesday (May 12) when it takes on Eastern Illinois beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Bulldog Park. The Bulldogs then head to Milwaukee when they open up a three-game set against the Panthers. The visiting Panthers held on for a close win in the opener, topping the Bulldogs, 3-2.
