Bulldogs Fall At Dayton, 3-1

BOX SCORE

DAYTON, Ohio – Junior Grant Fillipitch went 2-for-4 with a double and a run but the Butler baseball team fell short, 3-1, Wednesday at Dayton.

The Bulldogs (4-7) got solid pitching from four different Bulldogs, but a two-run 3rd inning by the Flyers but BU in a hole and it couldn’t catch up. Dayton led the 3rd off with a pair of singles and a sac bunt to put runners on second and third with one out. A sac fly drove in the first run and a Butler error allowed Dayton’s second run to score.

The Flyers (6-9) added another run in the bottom of the 6th inning on an RBI single by Cole Tyrell.

Fillipitch’s run was the lone tally for BU. He scored on an RBI single by junior Corey Moylan.

Junior right-hander David Dennemann started and took the loss for the Bulldogs, but worked a solid 4.2 innings. He allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits and fanned three. Seniors Jamie Feldheiser and Tyler Szymczak each worked a scoreless inning of relief.

The Bulldogs host a scheduled four-game set with Buffalo this weekend. A single game is scheduled for Friday, but that is subject to change due to expected weather in Indianapolis this weekend.
