SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Butler baseball team continued tournament play at Wofford Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to the host Terriers. BU lost the first game, 7-2, and rallied late in the second before falling 14-9.
Juniors Kyle Waggoner (3-for-7 with a run and a triple) and Jack Krause (2-for-6 with three RBIs) led the offense in the two games.
In game one, the Bulldogs were trailing just 3-1 when Wofford broke open the game with four runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. The big blow was a two-run homer by WC's Mac Doyle.
Junior Michael Letzter cracked a solo home run, the first Bulldog round-tripper this season, in the top of the 7th for Butler's final run.
In the nightcap, BU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning after taking advantage of Wofford mistakes. Junior Luke Duncan walked, advanced on a wild pitch and would score on an error. Junior Corey Moylan reached on that same error, and he would score later on a passed ball. Junior Kevin Crane added an RBI single in the inning.
The lead didn't last as Wofford scored three times in the bottom of the 1st, and the game would be tied 5-5 after three innings.
Wofford scored eight runs in innings 4-6 to take a 13-8 lead. Down 14-8, the Bulldogs added a run in the 9th on an RBI double by junior Jack Krause.
Butler (1-2) concludes the season-opening, four-game set Sunday afternoon against USC-Upstate a t 2 p.m.
