USC-Upstate Blanks Dogs
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Playing its fourth game in three days to open the season, the Butler baseball lost, 10-0, Sunday at USC-Upstate in South Carolina. Junior Jared Wagoner was named to the all-tournament team.
Junior Luke Duncan led the Bulldogs with two hits. Duncan, the team's starting second baseman, batted .500 (6-for-12) in the four games over the weekend. BU finished the season-opening trip 1-3.
USC-Upstate, a member of the Atlantic Sun, scored at least one run in innings 2-6. Leading 5-0, the Spartans scored four times in the bottom of the 6th inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead. They would add another insurance run in the 8th.
Sophomore Ryan Salvino (0-1) started and took the loss for Butler. He pitched 4.0 innings but allowed just one earned run. Senior Jamie Feldheiser had a solid relief outing, working 1.1 scoreless innings.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play their home opener Wednesday, March 3 vs. Indiana Tech. They will then leave for Florida next weekend for their spring break trip.
