Jared Wagoner Named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS - Junior pitcher Jared
Wagoner has been named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week.
It is his first career weekly honor and the first for the Bulldogs
this season.
Wagoner, a righty from Vincennes, Ind., allowed just three hits in 7.0 shutout innings in Butler's season-opening win over NJIT last Friday. He struck out four and walked one while retiring 21 of the 25 batters he faced.
"As of one of our team co-captains, Jared is a pitcher who leads by example and he is one of the best athletes on our team," head coach Steve Farley said. "In our season opener, he attacked opposing hitters with a good fastball and he had good command of his breaking ball. He threw a very high percentage of strikes, which is critical to a pitcher's success."
Wagoner and the Bulldogs are scheduled to host Indiana Tech Wednesday, March 3 at Bulldog Park. This weekend, Butler leaves on a seven-game spring break trip to Florida.
