INDIANPOLIS - Senior Michael Letzter slugged a home run in the bottom of the 6th and Jared Wagoner and Jared Earle combined on a shutout as the Butler baseball team split a doubleheader on Sunday at Bulldog Park. The Bulldogs won the second game, 3-0, after dropping a 15-3 decision in the first game.
Letzter finished the day with a 3-for-7 effort with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Bulldogs. In game two, Wagoner worked 7.0 shutout innings while striking out six. Sophomore Jared Earle worked 2.0 innings to finish off the BU victory. Earle retired six of the seven batters he faced.
After Butler (3-4) suffered a 15-3 loss in the first game of the series, the Bulldogs bounced back to win a pitchers' duel in the second game. The contest was scoreless in the bottom of the 6th when Letzter hit a 3-run shot to give BU a 3-0 lead. Wagoner and Earle made the lead stand for the Bulldogs to pick up their third win of the season.
Butler is scheduled to host Taylor Tuesday, March 8 at 3 p.m. That is the last scheduled game before BU plays seven games in Florida during spring break.
