LAKELAND, Fla. - The Butler baseball team concluded a seven-game swing in Florida with three wins. The week's finale was an 8-5 loss to Bradley. Senior Corey Moylan and junior Griffin Richeson each had two hits to lead the Bulldogs.
An RBI single by senior Grant Fillipitch and an RBI double by senior Michael Letzter gave Butler a 2-1 lead against the Braves after four full innings. Bradley answered with two runs in the top of the 5th and then scored five runs in the last three innings to take an 8-2 lead.
Butler battled back in the bottom of the 9th, taking advantage of two Bradley errors to score three runs.
Senior right-hander Dom Silvestri gave a solid effort on the mound, pitching into the 7th and striking out four.
Six Bradley players had multi-hit games. Outfielder Brian Martin had four hits and three RBIs.
The Bulldogs (7-8), who went 3-4 on the Florida trip, will take on Indiana State Wednesday, March 23 before hosting a three-game set against Valparaiso on March 25-26.
North Dakota State 15, Butler 2
Sophomore Andrew Eckhardt went 3-for-4 and senior Jack Krause scored to runs to lead Butler. NDSU scored nine run in the last three innings to pull away late in the game.
Long Island 14, Butler 6
Senior Michael Letzter went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and juniors Nick Hladek and Griffin Richeson each added two RBIs for the Bulldogs. BU drew six walks in a four-run 3rd inning to trail just 7-5 after three frames. Long Island had 20 hits in the game and scored seven more runs in the mid-to-late innings. Freshman Jeff Gunter had four strikeouts in 3.0 innings of relief. Junior Brian Padove threw a scoreless 9th.
