Bulldogs Fall At Indiana State


TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Senior Michael Letzter went 3-for-4 with a three-run double but the Butler baseball team fell victim to two big innings in a 15-3 loss at Indiana State.  

Letzter smacked a double to center in the top of the 3rd inning that scored outfielders Kyle Waggoner and Andrew Eckhardt and infielder Griffin Richeson. The hit gave Butler a 3-1 lead. 

The Bulldogs led 3-2 in the 5th when the game shifted in ISU's favor. The Sycamores (11-9) scored four times in the bottom of the 5th, with a two-run homer by Robby Ort. Ort's home run came moments after a two-run triple by Kody Kraemer.

Leading 6-3, Indiana State scored nine times in the bottom of the 7th. The inning featured three doubles, two Sycamore batters hit by pitch and a triple. Fourteen batters went to the plate in the inning. Indiana State finished with 10 extra-base hits.

Eight Bulldog pitchers saw action. Freshmen Jeff Gunter and Brad Schnitzer and sophomore Chase Byerly each threw one scoreless inning of relief. 

Butler (7-9) will begin Horizon League play this weekend, hosting a three-game series vs. Valparaiso. BU hosts a 3 p.m. game Friday, March 25 against the Crusaders and a doubleheader Saturday, March 26.
