MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's Chad Pierce threw a four-hit shutout in a 4-0 Butler baseball loss at UWM Friday afternoon. The Panther starting pitcher went the distance, striking out nine and walking one.
Seniors Luke Duncan, Corey Moylan and Jack Krause and sophomore Pat Gelwicks each had a single for BU. Pierce was more effective as the game went on, putting Butler down in order in the last four innings. BU had multiple baserunners on once.
UWM tallied two unearned runs on a pair of Bulldog errors in the bottom of the 1st. Milwaukee's Jonathan Capasso singled and scored in the 2nd to make it 3-0.
Butler starting pitcher Dom Silvestri found his stride, cruising through the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings before finding trouble in the 6th. Sam Koenig double and then scored on a hit by Ryan Solberg.
Silvestri gave a strong effort, allowing just two earned runs over 7.0 innings. He struck out five and walked three, scattering 10 hits. Freshman Marcos Calderon pitched a perfect 8th in relief.
Butler (10-11, 2-2 HL) will play a doubleheader vs. Milwaukee Saturday, April 2. The start has been pushed up to 11 a.m. central time (12 p.m. ET).
