Pitchers Lead Bulldogs To 3-1 Win
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Five Butler pitchers combined on a five-hitter with 16 strikeouts to lead the Butler baseball team to a 3-1 win at IPFW. Junior Mike Hoscheit went 2-for-3 and scored two runs to lead Butler.
Sophomore Joel Leichty (2-0) got the win and was one of four pitchers to work 2.0 innings in the victory. IPFW's lone run came on a solo homer in the bottom of the 4th. Junior Ryan Salvino also threw a shutout inning of relief.
The Bulldogs (19-23) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Hoscheit singled and then scored on a sac fly by senior Jack Krause. BU led 2-0 in the 4th inning when senior Corey Moylan walked, stole second and scored on a double by freshman Zach Sizemore.
After IPFW's Kristian Gayday homered to make it 2-1, Hoscheit provided an insurance run by walking and scoring in the 8th inning.
Sophomore Andrew Eckhardt also had two hits for Butler.
Two IPFW players - Malcolm White and Will Faulkner - each had two hits to account for four of the Mastodons' five hits.
