Chase Byerly Tabbed Third Team Academic All-American
Junior pitcher Chase Byerly, who set a Butler single-season record with 10 saves this year, was recently voted a Capitol One Academic All-American. Byerly captured third-team honors and was one of just 33 players in the nation to be recognized.

Bulldog Baseball Announces Team Awards
Junior Pat Gelwicks was voted Team MVP and BU's offensive player of the year and four other players were recognized. The awards were determined by a players' vote at the end of the regular season.

The Butler baseball team got an assist from the right-field fence at Henry Aaron Field in Milwaukee on Friday. Senior Mike Hoscheit hit a shot to right and it ended up being an inside-the-park home run that gave BU a 3-2 over UWM.

Senior Mike Hoscheit went 2-for-3 and scored both of Butler's runs as the Butler baseball team lost 14-2 at Milwaukee on Thursday. It was the first time this season Butler has lost a league series opener.

Each winter, the Butler baseball team turns grueling workouts into a fun and competitive series of events the program calls IronMan Challenge. The IronMan Challenge consists of five events: mile run, swim relay, west gym obstacle course, towel hang and Swedish Shuttle Run (beep test). Nick Hladek, who is entering his senior season as a catcher for the Butler baseball team, led his summer collegiate wood bat team to the Valley League Championship this summer. Hladek batted .333 for the Covington Lumberjacks, a summer team based in Covington, Va.

The Butler baseball program will hold its first informational meeting for all incoming baseball players Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be in Hinkle Fieldhouse's East Classroom. Physicals for all new players will begin that day at 6 p.m. in Hinkle's West Classroom.

BU Baseball Adds 4 Players During Spring
After finishing a 23-win season, the Butler baseball program has added four standout players who will join the team in the fall of 2011. Pitchers Derek Higgins and Kevin Lenkman and infielders Andy Gehr and will suit up for the Bulldogs for the 2012 season.
